How electrical contractors win federal work
Federal construction isn't only for big general contractors. Most jobs need electrical work, either bid directly or as a subcontractor to the company that wins.
- Register on SAM.gov (free). The government can't award you a contract until your business has an active SAM.gov registration. List NAICS 238210 (Electrical Contractors and Other Wiring Installation Contractors) so contracting officers searching for electrical work can find you.
- Look for set-asides. Small-business set-asides are reserved for smaller firms, so you compete with companies your size.
- Sub to the prime. Award notices name the company that won. Call early, introduce your trade and ask who handles subcontracting.
- Check every morning. Notices close fast. TheBidBroker checks SAM.gov daily and emails you only the electrical work in your area.
